To keep from loosing the thumbscrew - go in with some really pointed cutters and remove a little of the plastic that the threaded part of the thumbscrew goes thru. Then put the thumbscrew back in and screw a really small 4-40 nut onto the thumbscrew. If you have removed enough plastic, the nut should screw on far enough to be out of the way.
